Mercy Johnson On Life, Marriage And Motherhood - And How Genevieve Nnaji Made her go into Acting

She has been on top of her game as one of the best actresses in Nigeria ever since she featured in the movie 'The Maid' years back. She is a wife and a mother. Read her interview below;

What has Mercy Johnson been up to lately?
I have been busy shooting movies, moving from one location to the other. I give God all the glory.

You recently set up the Mercy Johnson Foundation. How far has it gone?
So far so good; it’s progressing. It’s been God all the way.

How many movies can you recollect doing so far?
Over 100 movies.
What were your days like as a  child?
I was a tomboy. I am the fourth child from a family of seven children. The first four are girls and the last three are boys. So, I actually moved a lot with my brothers, climbing trees and stuff like that. We didn’t get everything we wanted but we got everything we needed. I’m from a very humble background; a Christian family. My dad is an ex-military officer and we basically grew up in a military environment. I attended Navy primary and secondary schools until I went to the Lagos State University.

And how has it been through fame and glamour? There have been the good and bad times; there have been rumours and scandals. Sometimes when I cry in movies, it isn’t the script that makes me cry. When I recall my humble beginning, I give thanks to God. When I remember how we moved into an uncompleted building and had to take cover whenever it rained because of the condition of the house; how my brother did a menial job as a bricklayer to earn a living and those days when we rolled over a stick to cover the windows up till the point when I started acting and raised money to cover the roof… I recall those days we were living with lizards because the floor and the walls of the house were not plastered, or when I had scars as a result of my several falls.

Ramsey Nouah Narrates The Story of His Life - Exclusive Interview

He is handsome and cute. He is the kind of guy every woman would love to have. For his numerous roles in romantic films, his fans call him ‘lover-boy’. But most of them may never know that behind his handsome face lies ‘the bad and the ugly’.

In this exclusive chat with The Entertainer, Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah recalls the unforgettable, tormenting experiences of his life when he was humbled by poverty. Here, he remembers the dark days when he slept under the bridge in Lagos without food. His story is quite touching. Excerpts:

You are no longer constant in movies. What is happening to you?
I am still on the screen; I pray for better industry than what we have. We don’t have a proper structure and it is affecting us. It is affecting so many of us because we don’t have a secured future. For instance, some veteran actors passed on and people had to gather just to try and give them a befitting burial. That shouldn’t be the case. We have an industry that just paid you one off. It is not in any way protective of the interest of the practitioners, it is not really helping us. I believe strongly that we need to do a more integrated production, quality production that will last, like when we started at the beginning. All the stories are not encouraging and technicality we are not growing, all these help to slow down the growth of the industry. And without growth there are can never be a future, without dynamics you can’t see the frontier. Basically, that’s what we are suffering right now and there must be changes. The concern of most people shooting now is about making their money back. They don’t have passion or love for the industry like we do. So, that’s the reason why I am not acting. I love doing a good job, something that will benefit the industry, a movie that whenever you pick it up, if it is five or 20 years you can still watch and be happy. I want a situation whereby I will do a job and my great grandchildren will know me by my work. ‘Oh my great grandfather did this, yes he is the one’. That is what I want to do to leave a mark, a legacy, no just a passing face.

A lot of your colleagues have gone into producing their own movies. Is that the reason you don’t want to join the trend?
I am working towards producing mine at the moment, but the reason why it is taking me this long is because I wanted to get it right. I don’t just want to come out with something little or something that wouldn’t be of standard. I am one of the pioneers saying that we should have a better industry. Definitely, I should come out with something really nice. And that’s why it is taking me so long but I will be coming out with something this year.

Meet OJB Jezreel's Family - Three wives and Eight Children

Before his illness and miraculous recovery, Babatunde Okungbowa akaOJB Jezreel‘s family never came under the light. Sure, we were all aware he was legally married to three wives but other than his first wife Mabel, we never really knew who the others were or how many children they had for him.

Investigations have revealed the music producer is blessed with eight children (yup, I guess we can all cut2face Idibia some slack now). Our correspondent gathered that OJB is actively involved in the lives of his wives and children and they all seem happy with their husband.
The entire family was involved when he battled ill-health. And it was his eldest wife, Mabel, who eventually donated a kidney for the producer’s transplant.

2face Idibia Welcomes Baby Number Seven

2face and Annie Idibia have welcomed their second child together – a baby girl.
Annie Idibia delivered a bouncing baby girl in the night of January 3, 2014 at an hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, US. Her manager Naomi Adenuga confirmed the news through her Twitter. ‘Thank God for safe delivery …. Princess Idibia is here*‘, she wrote a few hours ago.
Annie travelled to the US back in November 2013. She has been in the company of her mother and four-year-old daugther Isabella.
Meanwhile, we have confirmed that 2face was not with Annie in Atlanta. The Pop singer who had a busy performance schedule during the Christmas/New Year festive period is currently in Lagos, Nigeria. A photo on Instagram shows him partying with friends at his newly opened Club Rumors night club located at FESTAC, Lagos.
2face is now blessed with seven children – two girls with wife Annie, two boys with baby mama Sunmbo Ajaba and two boys plus a girl with his other baby mama Pero Adeniyi.

Bimbo Akintola cries out: I Don't Need A Husband!

Since hitting the limelight in a big way with ‘Out of Bounds” alongside RMD in the 90s, Bimbo Akintola has become a big name who does things in a big way. You don’t approach her with your scripts unless you have big plans about it. Controversial, some might say, but Bimbo describes herself as easy-going but definitely not when falsehoods have been peddled about her as a story running wide that she is in desperate need of a husband. Excerpts.......

Why did you decide to party with the kids?
Heart of Gold Hospice, that’s why. There was Compassionate Children’s Home, there was Heart of Gold Hospice and one other one here today. But it’s actually because of Heart of Gold, I go to Heart of Gold on and off. I have been going there over the years and it’s heartbreaking when you go there and you see those children, it’s not just a regular orphanage, it’s a hospice. And what Aunty, the woman who runs the place does is that she makes sure they get the surgery they need to stay alive. It’s amazing, you need to go there and see for yourself what it’s all about.
What do you hope to achieve at the end of the day?
What I want to do at the end of the day is to raise money for this orphanages, especially the hospice, they need money because these children go for surgeries regularly, you can see that some of the children that came here today have special needs.

You are doing more of Yoruba movies these days than English movies compared to your early days in acting, why is that so?
I do English movies when I see good scripts. Hoodrush was in the cinemas this year. Next year one or two will be in the cinemas.
Are you working on any project at the moment?
I just finished Golden Penny Pasta Children’s Kitchen, I anchored that. Right now, I’m on break, finally.

Why Rev. Chris OKotie decided to Splash N110 Million on New Cars

The Household of God Head Pastor recently acquired a Rolls Royce Phantom said to be worth N80m and a Range Rover Autobiography worth N30million. He said he bought these cars to celebrate 27 years as a pastor and 30 years as a born again Christian. Well, below is what he describes as a justified reason for this waste and show of wealth.

Close associates to Chris Okotie disclosed that the controversial televangelist and ex-pop star was indeed in the spirit of celebration.

“Having abandoned music where he had already become a super star to serve God, Pastor Okotie is simply saying he didn’t miss anything in the world. 30 years on, he is a multi-millionaire; he has some of the most expensive automobiles in the world and lives in opulence with properties worth hundreds of millions of naira.  So, he has every reason to celebrate his dedication to God. In fact, he is celebrating the glory of Christ in his life over the years.” See more photos after the cut.......

MYSTERIOUS: How General Overseer Disappeared After Car Crash In Osun

car-crash-10[1]

Anxiety is mounting over the sudden disappearance of the General Overseer of Christ Worshippers Church with headquarters at Osubi, Effurun, Warri, Delta State Prophet Duromola Adedayo Samuel.
One source said Prophet Duromola might have met his death in a ghastly auto crash that occurred, yesterday, between 6.00 p.m and 8.00 p.m. along Akure-Ilesa expressway.
But another source said he might also have been a victim of kidnap.
A source in Ikeji Arakeji area where the crash occurred disclosed that after the crash and the vehicle veered into the bush, they tried to give a helping hand but did not meet anybody inside the vehicle with the number plate already removed.

Osun State police command spokesperson, Mrs Folasade Odoro, said there was no official report to that effect while family members from Owo, Ondo State claimed that they had gone to various hospitals in Owena, Ikeji-Arakeji, Ipetu-Ijesa, Ilesa as his whereabout was still unknown at press time.
According to the family members on search party, the vehicle was found but the prophet was not found, adding that no blood stain or anything curious was noticed at the scene of the accident.
Elder Boro, a member of the Board of Trustees of the church in a telephone interview said Prophet Samuel phone rang throughout  the night without response.
He added that may be he was praying on the mountain in Ilesa.

This was corroborated by Pastor Paul Opoweh, the Prophet’s personal assistant, who said efforts to reach him on phone proved abortive.
When the wife, Prophetess Eseoghene Blessing Duromola was contacted, she said Prophet Sanuel went to a mountain at Ilesa, with a promise to return  to Akure to pick her and the children to Warri for the end of the year vigil but that did not happen.

I disagree: Genevieve Nnaji moves in with D'banj. How true is this gist?

Rumours sprang up days back that Nollywood number one actress Genevieve Nnaji has moved in with Singer D'banj in his Lekki home abandoning her mansion at ParkView estate, Ikoyi. Popular blogger Linda Ikeji reported this, and said she was sure of the fact. But I do not not see it as possible. Is it love or what?
Do you think the Genevieve of class and high status we know would move in with a man even when she has not gotten married to him? Oya, tell me what you think........

Joseph Benjamin gets the Mind of a Business Man - See his New Year Message on BBM

Actor and TV presenter, Joseph Benjamin gets the mind of a business man, and he is not more going to play around with his career. Here is what he had to broadcast yesterday on BBM to all prospective clients.

"Happy New Year folks, glad we all had a seamless crossover into the new year. It is new year, things take a turn for the better. Change is constant. We should all desire to grow and achieve as much as God desires for us. Please permit me to share this general announcement:
Please don't ask me to do things pro bono for you, or your organization/magazine/newspaper/etc, unless you fancy being let down, personally.
I have serious bills to pay, just like the rest of y'all, so if you want to hire my services, we can talk, but otherwise, don't even think about approaching me - the time for me to pump up my resume with the fleeting thrill of being a good samaritan is over unless you pay for it. I repeat over!
And nope- no friendship calls as far as business is concerned. Thanks, I have to draw the margin somewhere, and since this last yearly quarter seems to be the one where I've been asked the most for free expertise, let me reiterate once and for all: nothing in the world is free, my expertise being the least amongst them."

Article:Nigeria is Not on the Map - 'Jide Olowookere

By Jide Olowookere
I appreciate God and for the opportunity to see the end of 2013 and cross over to another year with great minds.

This is not a popular motivational mumbo jumbo – Dare to dream! Follow your dreams!! Dream Big!!!
You know the drill now: Find something you love and put everything you have into it. Take nothing for granted. Apply yourself every day. Keep an open mind. Follow your bliss when faced with hard decisions—listen to the still small voice only you can hear. Don’t let material success or power fool you into giving up the simple human pleasures you will cherish above all in the end. And yes—be lucky like Nelson Mandela and others who spent their life in prison fighting for what they believe.
BUT this rendition is not enough. This rhetoric’s can’t meet the demands of our day.
As a socially conscious individual, the ills of our nation really move me to tears. From the Civil War where families were killed in bomb blasts to the multiple plane crashes we have suffered; to the multitude living in abject poverty and sleeping on the street; the height of corruption and corrupt minds, the demands of our day calls for MORE.

G-Wagon Era: J Martins and Davido buy G-Wagon cars for 2014

If it is the era of G-Wagon in Nigeria for our celebrities, then you will agree with me that it is a good era, beacuse I also want to own one soon. Singers J Martins and Davido just launched theirs. J Martin owns a 2005 G-Wagon AMG G55, while Davido owns a 2013 Mercedes Benz G Wagon worth N30M. This entertainment thing pays well oo.

Congratulations to them!

Chidinma taks about her sex scandal, and says stardom isn't fun

Kora award winner and Ex Project Fame winner, Chidinma Ekile, tells ‘Nonye Ben-Nwankwo how she has been able to manage the recent controversies surrounding her

You won Kora Awards last year and this year again, you were nominated for an international award, Channel O Awards. Did you ever imagine that you would get to this stage?

No way. I never imagined it in any way. All I did was just to be focused. I knew this was what I loved doing and I decided to just keep doing it. I didn’t expect that it would get this big. Sometimes I sit back and I think back of how it started.

But did the awards have any impact on your career?

Oh yes. When I won the Kora and got back to Nigeria, it was a whole different experience. People started treating me differently. They wondered how ‘small’ Chidinma could go to Cote D’ivoire and bring the Kora home. It added to my profile. Being nominated for the Channel O Award is a big deal for me even if I didn’t clinch the award. Read more after the cut......

Underage marriage is our rights as Muslims - Asari Dokubo says

Former Ijaw Youth Council president and founder of the Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force, Mr Asari Dokubo has given his opinion concerning child marriage in Nigeria. Below is what he wrote on his Facebook page a few days ago...

Reasons Why Funke Akindele's Marriage Crashed So Early

What went wrong?
It is no more speculation that the marriage, which was contracted on Saturday May 26, 2012, months after Nigerian Entertainment Today first spotted the couple at Industry Nite, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, has entered seriously troubled waters.

With more angles now coming out, including allegations ‘Almaroof, the man who stole Funke’s heart last year, swept her off her feet and landed her in the altar, has become a serial baby daddy, keeping a string of affairs, and even returning to the women he had prior to the celebrity wedding with Funke Akindele, it was only a matter of time before it was all out in the air.

"I have not had sex in 10 years, never knew D'banj's thing was short until I saw it" - Genevieve Nnaji says..........

Many are doubting her claim, saying it is just the trick she is using to fool the man that wants to marry her but Ms Genevieve Nnaji has a shocker for you guys, insisting no man has "entered" her in the last 10 years.

Below is what Genevieve said about her "thing":

”I have been single for so long, it hasn’t been easy, even when D'banj came along with his thing that wasn’t long he kept saying NO LONG THING..NO LONG THING.. never [knew] that was he meant it till i saw it, it was even shorter than his harmonica… We couldn’t settle down. I have not had sex in ten years.
"Luckily for me, I have found a man now to spend the rest of my life with.”
So, what do you think, could it be true that Genny's "thing" has been closed in for about 10 years?
If you ask me, I would say it is very much possible. For a celebrity like her coming out boldly to say this, it might be true, if it is not true, then let those who have slept with her come out with verifiable evidence nah, abi them deh use that side talk lie again. Lol.....

Don Jazzy And D'banj: Who Has Benefitted The Most?

After the split, the two took two very distinct career moves. Dbanj choosing to focus on internationalizing his band and name by breaking into the US and UK markets through Kayne West and the success of Oliver Twist, and Don Jazzy choosing to rebrand him self and his company into Mavin Records and promote former Mo Hits stars now that Dbanj wasn't there to take top priority such as D'Prince and Wande Coal as well as the new addition, Tiwa Savage.

Question is, who has found more success in their independent endeavors?
